Anew, limited-edition cigar from La Gloria Cubana began shipping to retailers last Friday, and it features a hybrid tobacco that gives the cigar its name. Called Corojo de Oro, the leaf is a cross-pollination between two Cuban-seed tobaccos, Corojo and Pelo d’Oro.
The proprietary tobacco was grown in the Mao region of the Dominican Republic, an area used by brand owner Scandinavian Tobacco Group for small-batch harvests, and it’s used for the cigar’s binder. An Ecuador Habano leaf was chosen for the wrapper and the filler blend consists of Brazilian Mata Fina, Dominican Piloto Cubano and Nicaraguan Ometepe. According to the company, the cigar is medium in body.
La Gloria Cubana
Presented in 20-count boxes, the La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro comes in one size, a Toro measuring 6 inches by 50 ring gauge with a suggested retail price of $10.49 each.
The cigars are made in the Dominican Republic at El Credito, a section of the General Cigar Dominicana factory dedicated to producing the La Gloria Cubana brand. Though a limited edition, the exact number of boxes and cigars being produced for this year has not been disclosed.
This is not the first time a La Gloria Cubana highlights a hybrid tobacco. In 2021, the La Gloria Cubana Criollo de Oro featured a hybrid as well.
Although this new La Gloria went to a few select retailers last year, the Corojo de Oro was sent out nationally last week.
