Dominican cigarmaker Quesada Cigars is celebrating half a century in business and is marking the golden anniversary with a pair of limited-edition cigars called Quesada 50th Anniversary. The cigars will debut at the ProCigar Festival in the Dominican Republic later this month and will also appear at the PCA trade show in Las Vegas in March.
“Having had the privilege of participating as our industry grew and evolved, we look at the 50 years of our history and developed a cigar that will reflect our manufacturing and blending traditions,” said company patriarch Manuel “Manolo” Quesada in an official statement. “As we have commemorated other anniversaries, reaching 50 years as a premium cigar manufacturing company is a milestone to be celebrated.”
The Quesada 50th Anniversary comes in two sizes: Toro Prensado, measuring 6 1/4 inches by 56 ring gauge ($17); and a 6-by-60 Perfecto ($19). Both are packaged in 10-count boxes. Made in the Dominican Republic, the cigar consists of an Ecuador Habano wrapper atop a Nicaraguan binder and mix of Dominican and Peruvian filler.

Production is limited to 2,200 boxes of the Toro Prensado and 200 boxes of the Perfecto. Two commemorative humidors have also been created, one of which will be auctioned off at the ProCigar Festival for charity while the second will remain with the Quesada family.
Quesada comes from a long family tradition in tobacco. His great-grandfather was a Cuban tobacco broker in the 1880s. He entered the family business at the age of 13 and in 1960 the family relocated to Miami following the Cuban revolution and moved to Miami. Equipped with only three rollers, a phone, five bales of tobacco and $100, Quesada became the first cigar manufacturer to work out of the Santiago Free Trade Zone in the Dominican Republic when he started Manufactura de Tabacos S.A. in 1974.
Quesada’s daughter Raquel, who is active in the business, stated: “I am beyond grateful to have worked hand by hand with my father on this special celebration cigar. Fifty years of continuing passion and legacy. Excited to embark on many new adventures together always keeping the flame of the love for cigars burning bright.”
